Age Concern’s Director-General‚ Gordon Lishman‚ said:

"Yet again we are presented with a damning indictment of the chaos that older people face when they most need help.  

“Since the Health Select Committee’s investigation into the issue two years ago‚ older people and their families have seen little improvement. Thousands are forced to pay for care that should be free and the support available remains a postcode lottery.

“As the report makes clear‚ any person whose primary need is healthcare because of illness or disability‚ should get fully funded care even if this means overhauling the system.    

“The next Government must make it a priority to put the report’s recommendations  into practice and sort out the mess once and for all. “
