Lily Wardle visited her local Age Concern pop-in centre more than 25 years ago to have her feet checked. Lily told us, “Before I could leave I was asked to help with the dinners and I’ve been here ever since.” At the age of 101, she is now one of Age Concern’s “super volunteers” working at Age Concern Ashford’s Joe Fagg Pop-In Centre in Kent.
As well as preparing thousands of meals, Lily has also raised hundreds of pounds for the charity by knitting baby clothes.
Lily says, “Age Concern is important to me. I keep my mind active with bingo and card games and the food and company are excellent.”
“Experts come in to look after my hearing aids and to provideadvice on home security, pensions, benefits and services for older people. They also organise transport to the day centre where bathing and other services are offered.”
And Lily, who will be 102 in September, is now seen by a podiatrist, so she still gets her feet checked regularly!
Your donations are crucial in helping Age Concern to continue to run projects like the pop-in centre in Kent that Lily attends.
