This booklet is updated annually and gives information about older peole throughout the United Kingdom. However‚ as administrative structures differ‚ in some cases statistics are given for Great Britain (ie. England‚ Scotland and Wales)‚ while in others‚ statistics relate to just England and Wales‚ or England only; in each case‚ the geographical area to which the figures relate is indicated accordingly.

Following each paragraph‚ a number (given in brackets) denotes the source of the information mentioned; a list of sources is given at the end of the document. Please note that the figures may not always agree because of rounding by sources.
