What you can do

If you are unhappy about the closure of a local post office‚ there are two things you could do.

If the consultation in your area has not yet ended‚ you can contact Postwatch or your local MP with your reasons why you think your post office should stay open. You will have to concentrate in your letter on why you think there is no alternative accessible post office. See the briefing for the criteria which will be taken into consideration.

If the consultation in your area has ended and the closures have been announced you could contact your district or county council to ask them to consider the feasibility of taking similar action to Essex County Council. Essex County Council is currently discussing with Post Office Ltd about funding from the council's budget to provide postal services in their own facilities in some areas where post offices have closed. Once negotiations are complete this model will be available to other councils to consider in their areas.
