Our response to the publication of the Thoresen review

Gordon Lishman, Director General of Age Concern, said:

“We are pleased with the recommendations of this report. Many people find making financial decisions confusing, particularly when it comes to planning their income in retirement. However plans must be put in place to specifically target older people.”

Notes to editors:

  • When people who used the initial pilot schemes were asked what they were likely to use the advice service for, 'improving my income in retirement' was the second (equal) most popular topic, with 23% of people saying that they would use it for this purpose (the same as for mortgages), a further 20% said they would use it for advice on saving for retirement.
  • Age Concern has developed MoneyTrail – an innovative new tool to help people plan ahead for the retirement income they want. The CD-ROM, and information guides can be ordered free of charge from www.ageconcern.org.uk/moneytrail or by calling Age Concern’s information line on freephone 0800 00 99 66.
