Our response to introduction of post office outreach services

Gordon Lishman, Director General of Age Concern, said:

“Introducing outreach services is a good idea which should help older people in areas where a stand-alone post office is not viable. However they will only make an impact if they are introduced permanently not just on a trial basis. The reach of 500 of these outlets is also limited and won’t fill the gaps in services that the current raft of closures will create.

“There should be as many outreach locations as needed, determined by local consultation, to ensure that essential services are delivered effectively. Outreach services should also be introduced before closures in affected areas, so that there are no gaps in access to essential services for the many older people who rely on them. “
