Gordon Lishman, Director General of Age Concern, said:
“Loss of sight in later life can mean older people lose their independence and can trigger depression. Both factors will significantly reduce a persons’ quality of life.
“The Government is promoting independence and well-being, yet NICE is taking a narrow view of the impact of AMD on the quality of life. Private treatment is not an option for many older people as it is prohibitively expensive.
“Friends, families and those affected by AMD should make their views known by contributing to the NICE consultation or by contacting their MP.”
