Our response to the planned switchover to digital television (15.09.05)

Age Concern England Director General Gordon Lishman said:

“Television is very important to older people - they watch it more than any other age group and for many it is a vital source of news and information. Switching over to digital television will have cost implications for older people and technical trials have shown a significant number of older people require assistance to install new digital equipment.

“Many older live on a fixed income and already struggle to pay their bills. Older people on low-incomes will have difficulty meeting the costs – especially those that face a substantial bill because of the need to install satellite or have a new aerial fitted.
