Social care

Older people who have care and support needs should be able to exercise choice about how and where these needs are met, with care provided free after an assessment of need.

Care and support should be of a high quality, provided in a way that best enables independence.

Older Carers

Caring can be the cause of multiple disadvantages in later life. Older carers may be affected by the impact of caring on their physical and mental health, income and leisure time. The impact of caring on income, pension accumulation and development of social networks can mean that caring at a younger age results in disadvantage in later life. Yet caring can be a positive experience.
