Rod Stewart has publicly defended fellow singer Sir Paul McCartney in his high-profile divorce row.
However‚ Stewart‚ who is set to marry model Penny Lancaster‚ told Chris Evans' Radio 2 show that he believes recent allegations made by Sir Paul's wife‚ Lady Heather Mills‚ McCartney to be false.
The 61-year-old urged McCartney to stand his ground during the ensuing court battle.
"I think he should fight her. I think his name has been slurred‚" he said.
Stewart may appreciate McCartney's onerous position‚ having been involved in an acrimonious seven-year legal battle with former wife Rachel Hunter in recent times.
Speaking of his relationship with Penny Lancaster‚ Stewart painted a rosier picture of seemingly contented married life.
He told Ireland Online that he was looking to have another child with his 37-year-old prospective wife and said he 'couldn't wait' to teach son Alistair how to play football.
